WEATHER SITUATION UPDATE FOR BRUNEI DARUSSALAM 24 FEBRUARY 2023

24 Feb 2023

General Situation:
Brunei Darussalam is currently in the second phase of the Northeast Monsoon, where generally Northeasterly wind is more dominant and the atmospheric conditions tend to be more stable with less rainfall activities.

However, active weather conditions are forecasted for the next few days due to the presence of strong Northeasterly wind surge and a low-pressure system over our region, which will result in unstable and humid atmosphere, and subsequently is favorable for the development of rain clouds.

Brunei Darussalam Weather Situation:
Weather condition over Brunei Darussalam is forecasted to be active starting today, Friday (24th February 2023) until Tuesday (28th February 2023), with occasional heavy and thundery showers affecting many areas of the country. Windy condition with gusts of up to 45 km/h can also occur especially during the crossing of heavy showers over our country.

Over Brunei waters, sea condition is generally at moderate state, with wave height of 1.0-1.8 m. However, sea condition is forecasted to be at rough state, with wave height up to 3.5 m especially over the offshore areas starting Saturday, 25th February 2023 until Thursday, 2nd March 2023.
Our Advice:
Members of the public are advised to take precautionary actions with respect to the forecasted active weather condition. Risk of falling trees is still expected during heavy showers and gusty conditions. There is also risk of flash floods especially at low-lying and flood prone areas as well as near the riverbanks during continuous heavy rain and also during high tide. Rough sea condition is dangerous to small boat operations, sea recreational activities and sports.
