WEATHER UPDATE FOR BRUNEI DARUSSALAM SECOND PHASE OF NORTHEAST MONSOON (FEBRUARY 2023 UNTIL MARCH 2023)

06 Feb 2023

Brunei Darussalam has now entered the second phase of Northeast Monsoon which is expected to persist until March 2023. During this period, the atmospheric condition tends to be more stable with less rainfall activities.

Relatively, the months of February and March are categorized as two of the driest months in a year with the lowest average amount of rainfall recorded in comparison to the other months. Based on climatological data, average rainfall for February is 162.9 mm and 143.4 mm for March.

However, based on the latest weather model indicates that during this month of February, Brunei Darussalam is still expected to experience active weather conditions at times, especially during the afternoon and at night.

The rainfall amount for February is forecasted to be slightly above the average value at 190-200 mm. One of the factors causing slight increased in rainfall amount for this month is due to the presence of La Niña
phenomena over the Pacific Ocean which is expected to persist until end of February or early March 2023.

In this regard, members of the public are advised to take necessary measures and precautionary actions with respect to the possibility of active weather conditions that are expected to occur, to ensure everyone’s safety.
