WEATHER UPDATE FOR BRUNEI DARUSSALAM 26 JANUARY 2023

26 Jan 2023

General Situation:

Brunei Darussalam is currently still in the first phase of the Northeast Monsoon, where generally unsettled weather conditions with showers or thundershowers occur especially during the night until early morning.

Since earlier this week, our country has been experiencing active weather conditions due to the presence of strong Northeasterly wind surge and the low pressure system over our region. This has resulted in unstable and moist atmospheric conditions which is favorable for the development of rain clouds. The influence of the low pressure system can also bring about windy conditions which can be gusty at times, especially during the crossing of heavy showers over our country.

Brunei Darussalam Meteorological Department’s Meteorological Observation Station, at the Brunei International Airport had recorded the highest total rainfall amount for this week which is 115 mm, last Tuesday.

Brunei Darussalam Weather Situation:

With reference to the weather advisory issued on 23rd January 2023, weather condition over Brunei Darussalam is still forecasted to be active until Sunday (29 January 2023).

Showers, heavy and thundery at times, are expected with wind gustthat may reach up to 45 km/h over land areas and up to 50 km/h over sea areas during or near heavy showers.

Meanwhile, over Brunei waters, sea condition is at moderate to rough state, with wave height of 1.0 to 3.0 meter.

Our Advice:

Members of the public are advised to take precautionary actions with respect to the forecasted active weather conditions. Risk of falling trees and landslide is possible during heavy showers and gusty conditions. There are high risks of flooding and flash floods especially at low-lying and flood prone areas as well as near the river banks during heavy rain and also during high tide. Rough sea conditions are dangerous to all small crafts, sea recreational activities and sports.

Public, including road users and also fishermen, are advised to always be up to date with the latest weather forecast, advisory and warning issued by Brunei Darussalam Meteorological Department, and to take necessary actions to ensure safety.
