WEATHER SITUATION UPDATE FOR BRUNEI DARUSSALAM 13 JULY 2022

13 Jul 2022

Brunei Darussalam Monsoon Situation

Brunei Darussalam is currently in the Southwest Monsoon period where normally we would experience generally fair weather in the morning and showers in the afternoon.

In the past few days however, we have been experiencing active weather conditions influenced by the presence of a persistent low-pressure system over the South China Sea resulting in unstable and moist atmospheric conditions which is favourable for the development of rain clouds.

The influence of the low-pressure system has also brought about windy conditions which are gusty at times especially during the crossing of showers over our country.

Brunei Darussalam Weather Situation

Active weather conditions are still to be expected towards the end of this week (16 July 2022) with occasional squally showers, especially in the afternoon and at night, and rainy condition may last until early morning. Showers are expected to be heavy, gusty and thundery at times, with wind gust reaching up to 45 km/h over land areas. Over Brunei Waters, wind gust may reach up to 55 km/h with sea state at slight to moderate with height between 0.6 to 1.6 m.

Our Advice:

Members of the public are advised to take precautionary actions with respect to the forecasted active weather condition. Risk of falling trees is still expected during gusty condition. There is also risk of flash floods especially at low-lying and flood prone areas as well as near the river banks during continuous heavy rain and also during high tide.

Public, road users and fishermen are advised to always be up to date with the latest weather forecast, advisory and warning issued by Brunei Darussalam Meteorological Department, and to take necessary actions to ensure safety.

We shall continue to monitor the weather conditions and will issue weather advisories or warnings if necessary.
