Clarification Regarding Viral Information on ’supertyphoon’ by Brunei Darussalam Meteorological Department Ministry of Transport and Infocommunications

Brunei Darussalam Meteorological Department would like to clarify regarding the viral information on Super Typhoon that was circulated in the social media.
In that regard, we would like to notify that currently there is no Typhoon identified across our region. However, there is a Low-Pressure system currently located at 8.4 °N 114.9 °E (as of 4.30 am local time today) which is approximately 400 km North of Brunei Darussalam and is expected to move further away from our country. Nonetheless, the forecast indicated that it will be upgraded to Topical Depression in the next few hours.
This Low-Pressure system is expected to indirectly influence our weather situation in the next few days causing unsettled weather condition with occasional gusty showers. Wind gust is expected to increase between 40-60 km/h during or near to the occurrence of heavy and gusty showers. While sea state is expected to reach up to 3.0 m.
We shall continue to monitor on the development of the Low-Pressure system and will issue appropriate weather advisory or warnings if necessary.
